Quantum Group featured in Business Leader podcast: Peter Malmstrom and Floyd Woodrow talk building a business

Building a business from the ground up is not for the faint of heart. Floyd Woodrow and Peter Malmstrom — co-founders of the Quantum Group — know a thing or two about that. The pair recently appeared on an episode of the Business Leader podcast to talk about their respective military careers and how it led them to build Quantum.
Floyd comes from an extensive military background, with 24 years of service in the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS). Peter trained as a commodity and futures broker and also served a period of time in the British Army, including the 21 Special Air Service (not badged), after which he entered the world of specialist security providers.
In this episode of the Business Leaders podcast, the two leaders talk about acquiring skills like leadership, team-building, and negotiating, which they apply every day into Quantum to take it from strength to strength. One such skill is risk analysis.
“Risk analysis is about your opportunity. Risk comes when you're not good at something and you don't back yourself. I tend to look at it from a perspective [that] we can back ourselves if we have the right skill sets. [With] the right belief, you minimise what that risk looks like ,” says Floyd.
“I think the most important thing to think about, certainly in the environments we operate in is, where's the opportunity for success? Then you can mitigate the risk based on your skill sets. And I would honestly say if you've got the right team most of these risks disappear,” he adds.
The Quantum Group comprises five different companies: Valkyrie, Volopa, Verve, Forensic Control and Vantage Media. Quantum acts as an incubator for these companies to grow, says Peter, in order to allow each company the resources they need in order to reach for the stars. The key here, according to Peter, is to tailor every product to what every customer wants.
“We do heavy market research to realise exactly what the customer base wants and then we build it specifically for those customers so that we know that it's going to resonate,” says Peter. “Then we constantly evolve the products with custom feedback.”
