Quantum Group featured on Jazz Shapers: Co-founder Floyd Woodrow talks building Quantum with Peter Malmstrom

Leading the Quantum Group’s expert team, co-founder Floyd Woodrow has exceptional experience in the fintech and security space. Appearing in an episode of Jazz Shapers on Jazz FM — which brings together the changemakers and shapers of the business world with the musicians shaping jazz, soul and blues — Floyd spoke about his journey from being in the military to co-founding Quantum with Peter Malmstrom.

While on the show, two of the skills Floyd mentions he gained in the military are adaptability and leadership, which in turn shaped the businessman he is today.

“I think [adaptability and leadership] gives you a massive edge. Because you’re constantly realising that the world’s changing dramatically, economically, socially, politically and environmentally, so you’re already on that world of growth. I think that was the key for me within the military; I was always growing,” said Floyd.

Floyd also explained how the Quantum Group works, and the process behind founding it with co-founder Peter Malmstrom.

“Quantum Group provides an umbrella of all the key facilities you need [to run an organisation]: the finance, the R and D, etc., and then we make sure the organisations can run themselves,” explained Floyd. “So you have a managing director of each of the organisations and CEOs that organise and run it because they are the best at doing that.”

“They come to us because they’re not constrained, so they’re allowed to have their ideas, their creativity and again we’ve just allowed them to grow and I think set us apart from nearly every other organisation,” he added.

When asked about where he thinks he will be in 10 years, Floyd said he thinks by then they would have taken Quantum Group to a different level.

‍

“We’ll have taken Quantum Group into another level, we would have floated it, we would have done all the things that we expected to do. We’d have probably made a transition, I think. In ten years’ time, there will be another generation coming through that will be taking it onto another level,” he said.

‍

“I’d like to be looking at that company, in that organisation in twenty years and it’s still doing something magical in this industry,” he added.
