Quantum Leap: Financial Technologist says Quantum is “laying the groundwork for future success"
The Financial Technologist magazine has named Quantum Group “one to watch” as the fintech and security incubator lays the groundwork for future success, in a feature in the publication’s new edition. The Financial Technologist, published by fintech recruitment leaders Harrington Starr, is a print and digital magazine specialising in the latest news from UK fintech businesses.
Quantum co-founders Floyd Woodrow MBE DCM LLB and Peter Malmstrom spoke to the magazine about the genesis of the Group — whose portfolio today includes four standalone business including two FCA-regulated fintechs — and the aims of the company as it launched into a year of exceptional growth.
Floyd told the Financial Technologist: “There was an obvious convergence of technology between Valkyrie and Volopa, with clear synergies between the regulated FinTech world and the delivery of cutting-edge cyber security, which is why we were inspired to form Quantum in 2015. Initially seen as an incubator for good ideas, Quantum has developed three core standalone companies, and has a pipeline of innovation for further development as the Group continues to grow.”
The article says: “[Quantum’s] growth has indeed been impressive. Initially established with less than £100,000, Quantum has grown significantly over the last 14 years from the creation of Valkyrie in 2010 to the Group’s formation in 2016. Quantum has recently been benchmarked by the British Business Bank, together with a lead investor, capitalising its loans to equity at a £330 million valuation. Built entirely on private equity, Quantum’s growth has inspired its internal teams and external investors alike — and the Group has moved into 2024 with no external debt or bank borrowing.”
Peter added: “Having strengthened our balance sheet through additional investment and the conversion of debt to equity, we are now fully focused on growth with revenues being key to maintaining our trajectory as the Group positions for an eventual float.”
The Financial Technologist has previously featured Quantum and its companies — including Volopa — and named Floyd a Top 50 Fintech Founder.
The Quantum Group of companies includes FCA-regulated businesses Volopa, the expense management and FX platform; Verve, a frictionless cashback and rewards app solution; elite cyber security and crisis response firm Valkyrie; and luxury and fintech media agency, Vantage; in addition to multiple products and next-generation opportunities in the pipeline.
